LOUISVILLE, Ohio - Dearle H. "Sam" Sampson, 88, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday (March 24, 2010) in his home after a three-year battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Waterford, Ohio, to D. Albert and Ethel Sampson. Dearle was retired Military and from Macomber Steel, a division of Sharon Steel after 23 years. He later worked for Eslich wrecking for many years. He was a World War II, Army Aircorp, B17 Pilot, veteran and spent a year as an M.I.A.-P.O.W., after being shot down over Germany. He was a member of Christ United Church in Louisville.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Grace E. Sampson; a daughter, Patricia Burns of Alliance; a son, Dale (Darlene) Sampson of Homeworth; two brothers, James (Katherine) and Francis (Mary) Sampson, all of Waterford, Ohio; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Bobby and Dean Sampson.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday (March 27, 2010) at Stier-Israel Funeral Home, Louisville, Ohio, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Hinkle officiating. Interment was in Beech Mennonite Cemetery, Louisville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church at Louisville, Hospice of Alliance or The American Red Cross.
